• QPR midfielder arrested on suspicion of affray in megalopolis centre• Barton claims he was punched outside Liverpool nightclubThe Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton was on Monday arrested and later bailed on suspicion of affray after an altercation outside a nightclub in Liverpool.Barton, 29, was involved in an incident in the early hours of Monday while on a night outside with his girlfriend in Liverpool megalopolis centre. Two men, aged 21 from the Ancient Swan area of Liverpool, were arrested on suspicion of a public order offence at encircling 5.30am at the scene of the incident, outside Garlands nightclub in the megalopolis.After they were held in custody and questioned, Barton and a 20-year-ancient male were also arrested on Monday afternoon. All have been bailed pending further inquiries.A spokesman for Merseyside police said: “Following an altercation in Eberle Street, Liverpool megalopolis centre, in the early hours of this morning, four men have been arrested on suspicion of affray. Two 21-year-ancient men were arrested at the scene in the early hours of this morning and another two men, a 20-year-ancient from the Liverpool area and 29-year-ancient from the Widnes area, were arrested this afternoon. The two 21-year-ancient men, the 20-year-ancient male and the 29-year-ancient male have been questioned by officers and have been released on bail pending further inquiries.”Barton, who has become well known for his opinionated tweets, indicated after his release from custody that he was going on holiday on Tuesday. He tweeted: “Looking forward to Portugal immediately tomo. Bit of rest and lots of golf…”Earlier he had used his Twitter account to confirm there had been distress outside the nightclub. He tweeted: “I got sucker punched in the back of the head. Not injured as reported just a small bruise on rear of head/ear. I’ve had worse. Lifetime goes on! Thanks for the concern. Have a excellent day human beings.”A picture of the incident, apparently showing a shirtless Barton being held back by police and a woman, also started to circulate on the social media website. News of the fight was widely commented on by Twitter users, with the words Joey Barton and Garlands trending throughout Monday.The Liverpool-born player has a extended history of controversy. He is under investigation by QPR after he was given a 12-match ban by the Football Association. He was suspended after being sent off during QPR’s defeat at Manchester Megalopolis on the final day of the Premier League season.In an earlier statement, the QPR spokesman Ian Taylor said: “Barton was on his path house from a night outside with his girlfriend when two men sang offensive chants and then proceeded to hit the QPR midfielder.” The club declined to comment further after the arrest of their player.
