Letters: Lesbian stereotypes

May 28, 2012

Julie Bindel peddles the same ancient stereotypes and perpetuates the same dated lesbian images (Anti-lesbianism is a ruse to keep all women in our place, 26 May). An outside lesbian, I dress, for the occasion, to gaze excellent for my partner, to gaze professional, however not to constitute a political mark centred encircling how men view the earth. Lip Supply is populated by skinny, glamorous women, however so are other soapy dramas: unattainable female representations are sadly not an issue limited to lesbians. It is fair that lesbians are underrepresented in mainstream entertainment and other fields. This needs to alter. However lesbians are a diverse bunch, not one solely defined by their sexuality or one particular path of presenting themselves.
