Michele Bachmann Meets Young LGBT Activist Elijah At Book Signing (VIDEO)

Michele Bachmann was left speechless after an awkward encounter with a young activist named Elijah at a South Carolina textbook signing.

As seen in the below video, the Republican candidate and Tea Party darling greeted the soft-spoken 8-year-ancient and his mother at a meet-and-greet event for her fresh textbook, “Core of Conviction: My Tale,” which was released at the end month.

“My mommy — Miss Bachmann, my mommy’s gay however she doesn’t demand fixing,” Elijah said to Bachmann, after some lighthearted coaxing. A dumbfounded Bachmann then shot the boy’s mother an icy gaze before the pair walked away.

Bachmann — who has been outspoken in her support of a federal ban on same-sex marriage — is not the first GOP candidate to face the wrath of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights activists when appearing in public. This spring, Newt Gingrich was “glitterbombed” and told to “feel the rainbow” by a protester at his own textbook signing.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this advertise stated that Bachmann met Elijah at a Chicago-area textbook signing. The GOP candidate’s event was in circumstance in South Carolina.
